LO2- Legal and Ethical issues

In this report I will talk about the legal and ethical issues relating to my website and what I will do to prevent getting in trouble.

Firstly, I will ensure that my site will not contain any copyrighted images as that could end up in the original creator flagging my site and taking me to court. This will be easy for me to comply with as the images I am going to use are images of the magazine I have created myself. If I wish to use other creators images I will need to either log through the source of the image to see if they allow use or I will need to contact the owner of the image and ask if I can use it for educational purposes.

Since I have a contacts page, customers will be sending in their contact details so under the data protection act, I cannot release the contact details of my audience as they maybe spammed or contacted by scammers. To prevent this I won't share private details with anyone so they cannot be spread about. Also, if customers pay for their copy on Zinio they will be assured that their payment details won't be leaked as it is a trustworthy company where a lot of major magazines are shown.

I will ensure that my website is accessible for all audiences as Rovers will have many fans with disabilities. For example, if an audience member is blind then I will have alt text on the images so the screen reader can describe the image to person. Also, some of my audiences members may have conditions such as Parkinson's where they shake when controlling the mouse. To support them I could ensure that my buttons are quite large so they can easily clicked on making my website more useable for everyone.

I will need to watch out for identity theft on my site as I will have peoples email and number if they get in touch with our team. Also, similar to the data protection act, Zinio will allow people add their bank details so they can purchase the fanzine. With this being the case, Zinio workers who will see the information won’t be able to use the customers bank details to buy things for themselves.

When people go to contact us they will give us their own contact information so we cannot expose this as this may open up the possibility of cyber stalking. Cyber stalking is repetitive messaging and harassment of someone online which could progress to become more violent. To prevent this I will not share the contact information of people who contact us.

One of the most important issues I need to make sure I avoid is offence as Raving Reds fanzine will be aimed at all cultures so if I am offensive towards any religion or race then it would look like I’m disregarding them. To prevent this i will ensure I won’t use any derogatory language towards a culture and I will make everyone feel included in the fanzine.

Finally, I must not give any incorrect information on my site as it could tarnish a person or brand if I misrepresent someone. Also, I cannot give any Fake news to fans as it could end up with myself getting backlash from supporters if I maybe say Doncaster Rovers are close to signing a player and in the end it doesn’t happen. This in the end would give Raving Reds a bad reputation.

In conclusion, I will ensure all of the legal and ethical issues will be avoided on my site so my audience has an enjoyable and safe time looking at my website and they maybe encouraged to come back in future and read the future editions of the fanzine.
